In the spirit of rocking the 'do to blend with my personality and fashion taste, I decided to go au naturale about a year ago. I went bald. On a bright and sunny afternoon, in the heat of the summer, my head radiantly glowed. It became totally immaculate, burnished and glistening as though buffered or spit-shined with a generous coat of skull-polish. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to address the slogan, "I'm too sexy for my hair." That's far from the case. I became cognizant of what fit for me and decided to stick with it.

With my new pristine head-style came certain allusions to Hollywood celebrities, some pleasurable, others not. On the best of days I get, "you remind me of that dude from How Stella Got Her Groove Back," a complimentary semblance to the looks and suave of Taye Diggs in the 1998 romance hit. On other days I get, "you look like Seal, please sing 'Kissed By A Rose.'" Well, all I can say to that is I certainly wouldn't mind being Seal if I could get a piece of Heidi Klum, a hill-top mansion and a voice that wins Grammy's. On the totally hilarious days, which actually happened recently, and since the celebrated Leonardo DiCaprio motion picture was released, I get, "Bro, you look like that African dude from Blood Diamond … the one that said 'He is my son. I am his Father. I must save Him!'"

Within the beauty that exists in the diversity of a black man's hair, owing to its conformity to a repertoire of urban styles, the decision to go bald is certainly a bold and daring step. Wearing the totally bald look requires a great deal of confidence. It exudes an aura of strength, coolness, passion and masculinity, especially when it compliments a well-refined personality. Pioneered by Michael Jordan in the 80s, the bald look has stood the trials of time and has promoted the sleek sex appeal upheld by major actors like Ving Rhames in Mission Impossible; Tyrese, the notorious and maturing Baby Boy; Damon Wayans in the hotheaded Major Payne; James Lesure from NBC's Las Vegas and other stunning black media faces.

Not all head shapes conform to the bald style. The gift of working the baldheadedness is only given to a select few. However, following the advice of Hairboutique.com, here is a final thought: respect who you are and you'll just naturally feel good about yourself. A sense of pride and individuality is hot. Women are naturally attracted to men that radiate happiness, with or without hair.
