The spot, aired April 16 on YouTube, targets youth ages 18-24, but, says the press release, “it may also be viewed by teens.” Over the next ten weeks it will air on MTV, VH1, and FX. “The ad uses irreverent humor and the unexpected to capture viewers’ attention and get its ‘Safe is Sexy’ message across,” said Planned Parenthood.

Meanwhile, a female, African-American angel appears, fit out in standard angel dress except her white suit rather clings to her form. “What are you doing?” she says to the male angel.

Then, in rolling-in-the mouth, country hick sort of way, the male angel replies, “just keep your halo on. Watch this.” He presses a remote control device. The couple goes into reverse. The female hipster then says, “any protection?” He says, “yeah, of course.” She smiles, says, “amen,” and they proceed to the foregone conclusion.

The camera then focuses on the male angel, who says to his companion, “You know, you look pretty hot.” She presses the remote control device and he disappears.

This spot “will really break through the clutter and get people thinking about sexual responsibility as part of their larger value system, which may be religiously influenced,” said Sargent.
